Hello my name is Sunny and I’m the alpha cat of Laurie & Don Frick, owners and operators of OffLeash -where pets meet style- located in downtown Santa Barbara, California and this is the story of the Frick’s and their pets:

Self-serving as it may sound, my cat sisters, Sierra & Nixon and whippet brothers Rudy and Monte encouraged our parents to leave their careers in sales and marketing and sleep medicine to embark on a new career whereby they would open a pet boutique chock full of cat and dog products such as ultra-chic pet clothing, collars, leashes, toys, beds, Aromuttherapy™, accessories, and of course, organic food and treats.

In March of 2006, our mom spent four days in Queens, NY searching for Vivi, the whippet who escaped from a Delta Airlines flight at JFK Airport after the Westminster Dog Show.  The search was futile and when mom returned home she didn’t have the same energy and vigor we were accustomed to.  As days wore on and her sadness increased, we knew we had to take desperate measures to rectify her spirits… and that’s exactly what we did!  The whippets, Rudy and Monte, began to encourage mom to focus her energy on sourcing fabulous dog and cat products and finding a location where they can hang out with her all day off leash.  Fate would have it that our diligent efforts were met with overwhelming approval and happiness has been restored.  She found a location on State & Figueroa Streets in Santa Barbara, and we gave it our paws of approval.  We are still hoping and praying that Vivi is safe and will be reunited with her family.

Since my feline siblings and I were adopted from ASAP, www.asapcats.org, a no-kill shelter in Santa Barbara and since my mom volunteered for Catalyst for Cats, a non-profit organization dedicated to neutering feral and abandoned cats in Santa Barbara County, we suggested that our parents host events in the store to raise awareness for less fortunate dogs and cats.
